Roman Coins - Antoninianus of Emperor Tetricus II. Bronze

Antoninianus of Gaul Caesar Tetricus II 273 - 274 AD. The coin have in the obverse side the Tetricus II radiate head wich around the letters: CPIVESVTETRICVSCAES  (Caius Pius Esuvius Tetricus Cĉsar). On the reverse side the letters SPESPVBLICA and Spes figure advancing left, both low visibles.

 Tetricus II is the Emperor Tetricus I son, and get the rank of Caesar in 273AD (Caesar is the Emperor assistant). They command  in Gaul and win some battles against German invaders, but they are also in state of rebellion against Rome. Roman Emperor Aurelianus put the word end to the Gaul Empire in the next year (274). He win Tetricus father and son in the battle of Catalaunos (Châlons-sur-Marne). The two Tetricus are taken prisoners and bought in Rome where they must marching past the Aurelianus triumph. Both they will get life safe, and get also the senator rank, but never can't leave Rome.
