Roman Coins - Tetradrachm of Emperor Nero (Tiberius Claudius). Silver Coin AR2
This tetradrachm coin was minted in Antioch. On the obverse side you find Nero’s face and the Greek letters NERWNOS KAISAROS meaning Nero Caesar Augustus.On the reverse side there is an eagle with opened wings and a palm in the left, claws hold a  grain bundle. The H IP letters represent the 8th year of his kingdom understanding the coin was minted in 61/62AD. Nero (Tiberius Claudius Nero Caesar, 37-68AD) was the fifth Roman emperor, in succession to his stepfather Claudius since 54AD. The monetary reform of 64 made possible the restoration of public finances but to the disadvantage of the all inhabitants of the Empire. The year 64 is remembered also by the large nine-day Rome fire and its consequences such as the persecution of Christians throughout the city. The following year Nero discover of the conspiracy of Caius Calpurnius Piso, the repression cause the death of Seneca and Gneus Domizius Corbulus. Tiridate is crowned Armenia King in Rome during 66. Nero goes then to Greece where he visits Corinth and proclaims "The freedom of Greece". Excesses of the Emperor cause at the beginning of year - 68 a large wave of dissatisfaction in nobility and people, which culminates with the rebellion of Caio Giulio Vindex governor in Lugdunensis Gaul, and also of his ex-follower Galba in Spain. Nero is declared public enemy by the Senate. It commits suicide June 9th, - 68 68 in order not to be taken alive at the hands of his enemies.
