Kenwood TS-120V - Trio-Kenwood Inc. - Komagane, Giappone - 1979. Il TS-120V è un ricetrasmettitore per i radioamatori che intendono operare a bassa potenza. L'apparecchio riceve e trasmette in QRP sulle gamme amatoriali in nove bande: 80, 40, 20, 15, 10 metri e WWV (segnale orario sui 15 MHz solo in ricezione), con una potenza in antenna di 10 W sia in modalità SSB (LSB e USB) che in Telegrafia (CW). Il ricevitore del TS-120V è a singola conversione, con Frequenza Intermedia a 8,83 MHz. La sensibilità è di 0.5 µV mentre la selettività è di 2,4 KHz in SSB e di 500 Hz in CW se nel circuito di media frequenza è inserito il filtro opzionale da 500 Hz. L'uscita audio è di 1,5 W su altoparlante o cuffia da 8 ohm. La sintonia è mista, la grossa manopola posta al centro del pannello frontale muove il nonio meccanico e contemporaneamente incrementa o diminuisce l'indicazione della frequenza sul display luminoso da sei cifre LED posto sul lato sinistro del pannello frontale. La copertura in frequenza nelle nove bande è la seguente: 3.5-4.0; 7.0-7.3; 14.0-14.35; 21.0-21.45; 28.0-28.5; 28.5-29.0; 29.0-29.5: 29.5-29.7 MHz e il segnale WWV a 15.0 MHz solo in ricezione e utile per la taratura della sintonia. L'apparecchio richiede una tensione di alimentazione di 12 Vdc con il consumo che è di 700 mA in ricezione e di 4 A in trasmissione. L'alimentazione può essere fornita dall'apposito alimentatore Kenwood PS-20 oppure da un qualsiasi alimentatore stabilizzato che possa fornire 13,8 V con 5 A. La stabilità del TS-120V non è eccezionale, il costruttore assicura che lo spostamento di frequenza nella prima ora di funzionamento è di ±1 kHz e di ± 100 Hz nei 30 minuti successivi. L'altoparlante è entrocontenuto ma all'apparecchio può essere collegato un altoparlante supplementare da 8 Ohm come il tipo SP-120 della Kenwood che offre sicuramente un suono migliore. Altro accessorio interessante per il TS-120 è l'accordatore d'antenna tipo AT-120 che permette un accordo continuo da 3.5 a 29.7 MHz per antenne con impedenza da 20 a 300 ohm. L'apparecchio è fornito con il microfono da palmo MC35S da 500 ohm, ma può essere usato il microfono da tavolo opzionale tipo MC-50. Le dimensioni del ricetrasmettitore sono abbastanza contenute: 24 x 9 x 23 cm e il peso è di 4.9 kg. Di questo apparato ne venne prodotta anche una versione con potenza d'uscita di 100 Watt, il TS-120S. Ho utilizzato lungamente il TS120V con il quale ho effettuato molti collegamenti in QRP usando antenne a dipolo o verticali. il VFO dell'esemplare in mio possesso soffriva di un leggero spostamento di frequenza anche dopo la prima ora di riscaldamento, ma ciò non mi ha mai impedito di apprezzarne la sensibilità in ricezione e i riscontri di buona modulazione ricevuti dai corrispondenti. © IK3HIA, 2004 - 2025

Kenwood TS-120V - Trio-Kenwood Inc. - Komagane, Japan - 1979. The TS-120V is a transceiver for amateur radio operators seeking low-power operation. It receives and transmits in QRP mode on nine amateur bands: 80, 40, 20, 15, 10 meters, and WWV (time signal receive only on 15 MHz), with an antenna power output of 10 W in both SSB (LSB and USB) and CW modes. The TS-120V's receiver is a single-conversion transceiver with an Intermediate Frequency of 8.83 MHz. Sensitivity is 0.5 µV, while selectivity is 2.4 kHz in SSB and 500 Hz in CW if the optional 500 Hz filter is inserted in the IF circuit. Audio output is 1.5 W into an 8-ohm speaker or headphones. The tuning is dual; the large knob in the center of the front panel moves the mechanical vernier and simultaneously increases or decreases the frequency on the six-digit LED display on the left side of the front panel. The frequency coverage in the nine bands is as follows: 3.5-4.0; 7.0-7.3; 14.0-14.35; 21.0-21.45; 28.0-28.5; 28.5-29.0; 29.0-29.5: 29.5-29.7 MHz and the WWV signal at 15.0 MHz only in reception and useful for tuning calibration. The device requires a 12 VDC power supply, with a current draw of 700 mA in reception and 4 A in transmission. Power can be supplied by the Kenwood PS-20 power supply or by any stabilized power supply capable of delivering 13.8 V at 5 A. The stability of the TS-120V is not exceptional; the manufacturer claims that the frequency shift in the first hour of operation is ±1 kHz and ±100 Hz for the following 30 minutes. The speaker is built-in, but an additional 8-ohm speaker, such as the Kenwood SP-120, can be connected to the device, which certainly offers better sound. Another interesting accessory for the TS-120 is the AT-120 antenna tuner, which allows continuous tuning from 3.5 to 29.7 MHz for antennas with impedances from 20 to 300 ohms. The device comes with the MC35S 500-ohm handheld microphone, but the optional MC-50 desktop microphone can be used. The transceiver's dimensions are quite compact: 9.5 x 3.7 x 9.3 inches, and it weighs 10 lb 12.7 oz. A version of this device with a 100-watt output power, the TS-120S, was also produced. I used the TS120V for a long time, making many QRP connections using dipole or vertical antennas. The VFO of the unit in my possession suffered from a slight frequency shift even after the first hour of warming up, but this never prevented me from appreciating its reception sensitivity and the good modulation feedback I received from correspondents. © IK3HIA, 2004 - 2025
